Desiccators

Desiccators

Designed to absorb moisture a desiccant is used in specially-designed, sealable canisters or cabinets that store materials with low-humidity storage requirements. Once the moisture-sensitive object is placed inside the canister with the desiccant it will remain dry. These products are sometimes referred to as desiccant dryers or desiccant dehumidifiers. They come in both non-vacuum and vacuum types. Vacuum desiccators usually have a built-in stopcock which allows the internal air to be evacuated to achieve lower humidity levels. Usually a separate vacuum pump is needed; however the Cole-Parmer®Desi-Vac™ containers feature a convenient built-in pump. These machines are also available with many different sizes, style, color, and feature options. Some even have their own built-in thermohygrometers, ports for flushing the atmosphere with inert gas, and many more advanced features. The desiccant is certainly an important addition to your laboratory.
