Cole-Parmer offers a wide range of products for Life Science including products for electroporation. Our line of products include electroporation systems, cuvettes, buffers, and electrodes. Choose electroporation systems and products from such manufacturers as BTX, Eppendorf, and Thermo Scientific CelljecT. Our Application Specialists are available to help select the systems and products that suit your laboratory requirements.
Electroporation is a process by which a high voltage is applied across an electrical field to disrupt a cell membrane and introduce a foreign substance into the cell. This is done using a cuvette for electroporation and an electroporator. By introducing plasmids or foreign genes into the cell, alterations are made to the final cell, providing resistance to outside factors such as antibiotics. Once the process of electroporation is complete, a liquid medium is added to the reaction and cells are allowed to sit in an incubator for a period of time which allows the cells to recover and become resistant. The cells are then typically spread on agar plates for replication.
