The PBI Shredder SG3 is a unique sample preparation device ideal for molecular and cellular biological analysis. It creates a closed system in which to safely test your samples. Using pressure, the mechanical device forces the sample against the lysis plate in the tubes for low-shear cell disruption, resulting in better sample integrity and longer DNA than traditional bead beating methods. In addition, this type of sample preparation results in yields at or exceeding traditional labor-intensive methods, such as manual mortar and pestle methods, as well as higher reproducibility and lower cost than other sample preparation methods.

This Shredder SG3 system is easy to use and compatible with lab buffers and reagents already used in most labs. Typically, you would use a 10 to 300 mg sample and 0.2 to 0.7 mL of extraction reagent.

The heavy-duty driving device features long-lasting rechargeable lithium batteries for uninterrupted use and easy portability. A three-position setting lever on the base allows you to create a standard for reproducible results between different users.

Unique polypropylene shredder tubes are used as single-use processing containers for your samples. Using these tubes creates a closed system for sample collection, preparation, storage, and transporting—preventing sample cross-contamination and ensuring the safety of workers processing hazardous materials. The shredder tubes also are available with a metal lysis disk for processing of harder samples, such as seeds and ticks.
