Tensiometers

A surface tension measurement is vital to getting the most use out of your application. Tensionmeters are commonly used tools for surface tension measurement. They measure the surface tension between a liquid and air or interfacial tension between the boundaries of two liquids. Using the Du Nouy ring method, a platinum-iridium ring is slowly raised and the force required to break through the surface is related to the surface tension. This method is ideal for research and quality control applications involving oils, detergents, colloidal suspensions, and chemicals. You can also get a surface tension measurement apparatus that relates the height of liquid in a capillary to its surface tension for a quick and easy measurement. To get a surface tension measurement between a liquid and a solid a Contact Angle Meter is used. A liquid droplet is placed on the surface to be tested and a projection of the droplet on a screen makes it easy to determine the contact angle of the droplet on the surface. This test is great for determining surface wettability for grading surface treatments, testing surfactants, ink adhesion, and coating applications.
