        A:

The shield/housing can reach 400 F and the internal chamber reaches 1500 F. These are the known specifications. Actual BTU/hr or Wattage are unknown.

    • Q:

I have a Bacti-Cinerator IV which is approx 2 years old. It has experienced only lite duty, but seems to take a bit longer to reach working temps now. Could this mean that it will need a new element soon? Or perhaps it just needs to be cleaned? Do elements slowly decline over their lifetime, or do they go all at once like a light bulb?
Asked on 5/18/2011 by Ron from Newcastle, WA

        A:

The elements can corrode, wear should be checked prior to burn out (like a light bulb). If you can see orange glowing cracks upon heat up, the element does need to be replaced. Cleaning really is not possible since the actual heating elements are not directly exposed. Overall, yes this may be a good indication the element needs to be changed as well. The unit should take no longer than 10 minutes to warm up, and that is the time it takes to reach the optimal sterilizing temperature (1500°F/816°C).
