    • Q:

How accurate is this product? Does it have to be calibrated? I want to put the probe end in a crawlspace to monitor the temperature so I can turn on the heat source to prevent water pipes from freezing in the Winter if it gets close to the FREEZING mark.

        A:

This item is accurate to 1.8 F. It is pre-calibrated so it is nothing extra is needed. Your application sounds like it might be good for this thermometer.

    • Q:

What type of battery does this probe take? I would like to find one that takes standard batteries (e.g. AAA or AA) Is it fine for it to be used a couple months out of the year and then sit in storage? Will the battery last longer this way?
Asked on 4/11/2012 by Anonymous from CT

      1 answer

      • STAFF EXPERT

        A:

This uses a 1.5V size 357 button cell battery. Taking the battery out of the unit during long term storage will generally increase battery life. If you are looking for a comparable item that accepts AAA batteries, you might consider part# 90000-30.

    • Q:

Can the probe and wire be submerged in a food liquid up to 2 feet for about a 2 hour period while temperatures are monitored??
      Asked on 1/26/2012 by Anonymous

      1 answer

      • STAFF EXPERT

        A:

Only the stainless steel portion of the probe is rated for immersion. You may want to consider a thermocouple meter that accepts probes rated for long term immersion at depths of 2+ feed. For instance 91427-20 (meter) and 93756-44 (probe).

    • Q:

Is there a trim pot inside that I can readjust, if shortening the probe lead to six inches would throw off the thermometer's accuracy?

      1 answer

      • STAFF EXPERT

        A:

No, the probe cannot be shortened on this product.

I USE THE INSTRUMENT TO MONITOR TEMPERATURE OF LARGE TANK OF CHEMICALS AT 200F IN ORDER TO GET THE MOST OF THIS INSTRUMENT i HAD TO ENCAPSULATE THE READOUT AND THE HANDLE ALONG WITH THE CABLE IN ULTRA GLOSS EPOXY LEAVING EXPOSED ONLY THE STAINLESS STEEL TIP.IT WORKS PERFECTLY
ALSO, INSIDE THE INSTRUMENT, THERE IS A JUMPER IN THE CIRCUIT BOARD THAT ALLOWS FOR THE INSTRUMENT TO READ TEMPERATURE IN F. WHEN IS FIRST TURNED ON

Comments about Cole-Parmer Panel-mount Remote Probe Thermometer:

The thermometer is listed for temperatures above 500 degrees F and it measures it as well. Unfortunately the insulation of the sensor cannot stand any high temperatures (>200 degrees F?), it will deteriorate and shorten the measurement. I could not exchange the sensor without opening the housing. Had to discard this equipment after first use. Waste of [$]. Would not recommend it.The buttons for on/off, F/C and max/min are tiny and located on the back between the housing and the attachment knob. If you insert this thermometer in a housing you will not be able to use them (ON/OFF incl.!) I wonder who had that genius idea.

Comments about Cole-Parmer Panel-mount Remote Probe Thermometer:

I have a Sub Zero refrigerator and the repairman recommended getting this kind of thermometer stating that it would be more reliable than one that is left inside all the time. The temp read by this gadget of liquids in the refrigerator NEVER truly indicated what the correct temp was.
Am very disappointed. Does not do the job.

Comments about Cole-Parmer Panel-mount Remote Probe Thermometer:

I used two of these to test air temps in the engine compartment of my car. Car "enthusiasts" and "performance parts" makers claim some increased performance with a "CAI" or cold air intake.

I wanted to see what the temps were between the stock air intake and the proposed location of the cold air intake.

Bottom line was that at speed, the difference was a little less than 4 degrees Fahrenheit, with the stock air box being the warmer.

I was able to determine that 300 plus dollars for 4 degree cooler "cold air intake" was not such a good value, especially considering that my turbo charger heats up the air anyway.
