    • Q:

This is exactly what I am looking for, except I need a little higher temperature range. Could you suggest a product that could withstand an environment of 80 degrees celsius at a depth of 12-18 inches of liquid?

      • STAFF EXPERT

        A:

Although this meter is a thermistor-type thermometer; you could consider using a single input type 'T' thermocouple meter (item 91427-20) with a heavy-duty 24" stainless steel probe (item 93756-44).

    • Q:

Does this Unit have a settable alarm? I'm looking for a until like this that also has an alarm that would sound if the temp rose above 90F.

      • STAFF EXPERT

        A:

This thermometer does not have an alarm. Look at our 90052-00 which has an audible alarm when the set point is reached with a waterproof remote temperature probe. Mount the display outside the oven and insert the probe inside to measure the hot zone.

    • Q:

I would like to use this thermometer to measure instream temeperature at sub-surface depths. 1)Is this the unit you would reccommend and 2) how often should it be calibrated (say it is used daily for 6 mos out of the year) to retain NIST certifications?
Asked on 1/28/2011 by Erica from Burns, OR

      1 answer

      • STAFF EXPERT

        A:

This is a great choice for measuring sub-surface temperature of water. We typically recommend that you should re-calibrate the meter annually using our NIST-traceable calibration service.

    • Q:

I need to constantly monitor the temperature of liquid in a 25 litre boiler, ranging from 20 to 100 degrees celsius. Previous probe thermometers have malfunctioned due to the probe shorting out with vapour/immersion. If this probe is immersed but the cable is above the liquid in the boiler, will the cable & probe tolerate the vapour/steam in the damp environment?
      Asked on 1/10/2011 by Anonymous

      • STAFF EXPERT

        A:

This probe should work well in that environment.

    • Q:

Can I get a longer cable for this unit? I have 30 foot deep caison that is filled with water that I want to know the temperature at different depths.
Asked on 8/20/2010 by Anonymous from Houston, TX

      • STAFF EXPERT

        A:

There is not a longer cable option for this unit. We can provide a waterproof thermometer with a long cable, however. Please contact our technical application specialists for additional assistance (contact information can be found in the "contact us" section on the web page).

    • Q:

RE: EW-90205-22. I wish to measure my hot tub temparature but whenever I turn the unit on it indefinitely gives successively seemingly random readings and only ocassionally lights on what appears to be the correct reading. The battery is new. What is happening? Is there some procedure I need to follow to get a correct stable reading? Thank you.
Asked on 7/27/2010 by LeRoy from Helena, MT

      1 answer

      • Staff Reviewer

        A:

If the meter is not giving jumpy readings while the tub is off (yet the probe is still submerged) I think it may have something to do with the movement of the water and the probe sensing the movement, air bubbles, and occasionally just the water. To get an accurate reading I would try taking the temperature without the jets on.
If this doesn't work please give us a call or send us an email. Contact information may be found under the "contact/about us" tab.

    • Q:

Can the cord be submerged in liquids up to and including boiling temperatures?
      Asked on 4/5/2010 by Anonymous

      1 answer

      • STAFF EXPERT

        A:

The cable is immersible, however, the temperature limits for the cable are 0 to 50C. Depending on your application I would either suggest finding a way to clamp the sensor so that only the metal probe in submerged and the cord kept out of temperatures higher than 50C or choosing a thermocouple thermometer (something like the 86460-03 would be similar) and using an immersible wire probe (such as the 08466-82).

Perfect for the price and my needs. It's easy to keep clean and the long cable comes in handy. The only shortfall is that it is difficult to read at certain angles in dim lighting.

We are using the temp gauge to monitor influent temperatures in the flue at a sewage treatment plant. It's always ready to check temps and so far has been completely resistant to being immersed continuously.

There were no instructions to suggest to remove the battery cover and the plastic strip. I almost sent it back as a non-working unit.

It will be great to measure the temperature of the wine during fermentation. Previously we could not read the dial four feet down in the tank.
