Changing Browser Settings


Enabling cookies and JavaScript in your browser Print
To enable your browser to support these, click the link below that corresponds to your browser version and follow the instructions. For convenience, print this page so that you have it handy as you configure your browser.

  Mozilla Firefox (1.0 final release and earlier)

  1. Go to the "Tools" menu.
  2. Select "Options".
  3. Select the "Privacy" icon in the left panel.
  4. Check the box corresponding to "Allow sites to set cookies".
  5. Click "OK" to save changes.

  Netscape 7.1/Mozilla 5.0

  1. Select "Preferences" from the Edit menu.
  2. Click on the arrow next to "Privacy & Security" in the scrolling window to expand.
  3. Under "Privacy & Security", select "Cookies".
  4. Select "Enable all cookies".
  5. Click "OK".

  Internet Explorer 6.0+

  1. Select "Internet Options" from the Tools menu.
  2. Click on the "Privacy" tab.
  3. Click the "Default" button (or manually slide the bar down to "Medium") under "Settings".
  4. Click "OK".

  Internet Explorer 5.0 users
  To enable cookies and JavaScript, follow these steps:
  1. Select Internet Options from the Tools menu. The Internet Options dialog opens.
  2. Click the Security tab.
  3. Locate the Custom area of the Security tab, and click the Custom Level button. The Security Settings dialog opens.
  4. Scroll down to the Cookies section of the Settings window. To enable non-persistent cookies, select the Enable radio button under Allow per-session cookies (not stored). (To enable support for persistent cookies, select the Enable radio button under Allow cookies that are stored on your computer.)
  5. Scroll down to the Scripting section of the Settings window. For complete access the Cole-Parmer system, your browser must support JavaScript and Java. You must select the Enable radio button under Active Scripting.
  6. Click OK to close the Security Settings dialog.
  7. Click OK to close the Internet Options dialog.

  Internet Explorer 4.5 and up for Macintosh users
  To enable cookies and JavaScript, follow these steps:
  1. Select Preferences from the Edit menu. The Internet Explorer Preferences window opens.
  2. Select Java from the Web Browser menu.
  3. Select Enable Java from the Java Options window that appears in the right-hand window pane.
  4. Scroll through the Internet Explorer Preferences menu until you see the Receiving Files option. Click Cookies.
  5. From the right-hand window pane, locate the When Receiving Cookies menu.
  6. From the drop-down menu, select Never Ask and click OK.

  Internet Explorer 4.0 users
  To enable cookies and JavaScript, follow these steps:
  1. Select Internet Options from the View menu. The Internet Options dialog opens.
  2. Click the Security tab.
  3. Locate the Internet zone area of the Security tab, select the Custom (for expert users) radio button, and then click the Settings button. The Security Settings dialog opens.
  4. Scroll down to the Java section of the Security Settings window. We recommend that you select the High safety radio button under Java permissions.
  5. Scroll down to the Scripting section of the Security Setting dialog. Select the Enable radio button under Scripting of Java applets.
  6. Click OK to close the Security Settings dialog.
  7. Click the Advanced tab.
  8. Scroll down to the Security section of the Settings window. To enable non-persistent cookies, select the Always accept cookies radio button under Cookies.
  9. Click OK to close the Internet Options dialog.

  AOL 6.0 users
  To enable cookies and JavaScript, follow these steps:
  1. From the AOL Toolbar, select Settings.
  2. From the settings menu, select Preferences. You see the AOL Preferences window.
  3. From the Organization column, click Internet Properties.
  4. From within the Internet Properties window, click the Security tab.
  5. From the Web Content Zone, highlight Internet (which is associated with a world globe icon).
  6. Locate the Security Level section and use the slider to set the security level to Medium and then click Apply. This setting enables the cookies, Java, and JavaScript.
  7. Click OK to exit.
If you must use a High Security setting, do the following:
  1. From the Security Level section of the Internet Properties Security tab, click the Custom Level button.
  2. Scroll through the options provided in the Security Settings window until you locate the Cookies options.
  3. To enable non- persistant cookies, select the Always accept cookies radio button
  4. Scroll down to the Scripting section of the Security Setting dialog. Select the Enable radio button under Scripting of Java applets.
  5. Click OK to close the Internet Options dialog.

  Netscape Communicator users
  To enable cookies and JavaScript, follow these steps:
  1. Select Preferences from the Edit menu. The Preferences dialog opens.
  2. Select Advanced in the Category window. The right pane displays a set of advanced options.
  3. In the top section of the right pane, select the Enable Java and Enable JavaScript check boxes.
  4. For Complete access to the Cole-Parmer system, your browser must support non-persistent cookies. To enable this support, in the Cookies section of the window, select the Accept only cookies that get sent back to the originating server. (To enable support for persistent cookies, select the Accept all cookies check box.)
  5. To save your changes and close the Preferences dialog, click the OK button.
