Definitions  [Back to search]
Ph Resolution: The number of digits a particular unit can read. For example, a pH controller with a resolution of 0.1 may read 10.0 but a unit with a resolution of 0.01 may read 10.00
Ph Accuracy: The accuracy of the pH reading on a particular unit.
Control Type: The type of control the unit employs in controlling the pH. On/Off control turns another unit on or off when there is deviation from a set point. Proportional control varies the control output based on how much deviation there is from the set point, thus considerably decreasing overshoot. PI and PID add successively more precise control.
Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC): The ability of a unit to reference the pH measurements to 25 degrees C, since pH electrodes respond differently at different temperatures. Recommended in any system where there may be varying temperatures and/or temperatures away from room temperature. For the specific ATC element, see your electrode’s specifications.
Power Requirements: The input power of the unit. 120 V AC is most common in the United States, 220 V AC is most common in other countries of the world. 12 and 24 V DC can be used in situations where more portable power sources are needed.
Mounting Type: Choose between different types of installation
Adjustable Deadband/ Hysteresis: The ability to change the dead band, or the span of the input signal that will produce no change in the unit’s output signal. This is useful when the measured value is very close to the set point. This feature will lead to less cycling of the output.
Password Protection: The ability to protect the settings of the unit through some sort of password. Very helpful when dealing with multiple users of the equipment.
mV display/ ORP Capable: The ability of the unit to read in mV, allowing the user to connect an ORP electrode and read ORP measurements.
Dual Input: The ability of the unit to take two pH inputs from separate electrodes. This allows before and after or differential measurements to be taken.
Built-in Recorder: Some of our pH controllers have a built-in paper recorder, giving a permanent record of the pH in a limited amount of space.
Built-in/ Integral pump: A pump and control system built into one unit saving space and interfacing difficulties.
Washdown/ NEMA 4 rating: Watertight unit- excellent for outdoor applications or environments where washdown of equipment is necessary.
Automatic Buffer Recognition: The ability of the unit to automatically recognize a standard set of pH buffers. This allows quicker and more efficient calibrations
Analog Output: The ability of the unit to send out an electrical signal, proportional to its output. Often used to control metering pumps or data recorders.
Serial Output: The presence of an interface that allows serial communication with a computer or similar equipment.
Brand: The manufacturer or name under which this product is sold
RS-232: A standard computer interface used primarily to connect PCs
and microprocessors with the balance.
