Use a Gel Timer Meter to Determine Gel Time of Thermosetting Compounds

Teche Gel Timers

You can use gel timers to assess gel time for thermosetting compounds such as resins, monomers, styrenes, formaldehyde, thermosetting foodstuffs, and other polymerizable materials. Gel meters are convenient for quality control processes, research, and production.

A sudden increase in material viscosity indicates the gelation point, which the meter senses via increased torsion on a slowly rotating glass spindle in the sample. The gel timer will automatically cease and produce an audible buzzer alerting you that the gelation point has been reached.

Reproduce your results by controlling the sample temperature. For the model shown, an immersion heater is included. Plug the heater directly into a power source or use a temperature controller for more precise control.
