Not all temperature monitoring devices are the same

Are you using or thinking about purchasing a cloud-based data logging device to monitor the temperature of your refrigerator/ freezer or humidity levels in your laboratory or server room? You are not alone. Many companies are implementing IoT into their labs and server rooms. This implementation comes with concerns that include IT security, regulatory compliance, and ease of setup/use, all at an affordable cost of ownership. These are actually great tips to use when selecting your next temperature monitoring device. We’ve summarized them below:

1. IT security

Cloud data needs to be stored on a secure database, like Azure. Additional measures include encrypted communication, OWIN authentication, restricted access to function based on roles (Admin/User), account ids to partition data and unique data logger identification and validation by cloud service.

2. Regulatory compliance

Make sure the data logger you select has assured regulatory compliance. They will come with multi-point calibration by an ISO 17025 accredited calibration laboratory, accompanied by an individually-numbered calibration certificate which indicates traceability of measurements to the SI units through NIST or other recognized national measurement institutes (NMI) that are signatories to the CIPM Mutual Recognition Agreement.

3. Ease of setup/use

Choose a device that is easy to set up and use. With devices, such as Traceable® with TracebleLive®, set up is as easy as 1-2-3.
