Mpox controls for quality control, research and assay development are available.
Mpox is a viral, zoonotic disease endemic to several countries in Central and Western Africa. In mid-2022 an outbreak was identified in Europe; the first-time wide community spread was seen in non-endemic regions. Belonging to the genus Orthopoxvirus and the family Poxviridae, Mpox virus causes a smallpox-like disease in humans.
Symptoms of Mpox
Symptoms typically last 2 to 4 weeks and include fever, intense headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, swollen lymph nodes, and a skin rash or lesions. The rapid and accurate diagnosis of this disease during the early stages of infection is essential for timely and proper treatment.
Preferred testing method
PCR-based methods are the preferred laboratory method for the diagnosis of Mpox. They allow for highly sensitive detection and differentiation of Monkeypox from other orthopoxviruses. However, the development and validation of these assays are dependent on the availability of high-quality reference materials.
ZeptoMetrix NATtrol™ Mpox Virus Positive and Negative Controls (NATMPXPOS-6C and NATMPXVNEG-6C) are now available. ZeptoMetrix NaTtrol Controls are refrigerator stable, ready-to-use, non-infectious, whole organisms that can be used across various molecular testing platforms and assays. Using these controls helps to monitor testing performance and provides additional confidence in the quality and reliability of clinical laboratory operations. ZeptoMetrix offers a variety of products for your routine QC testing and assay development.
