Here are some tips to make sure you are getting optimal use and accurate results from your meter.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Prepare your <a href=\"\/p\/oakton-t-100-handheld-turbidity-meter\/26684\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">turbidity meter<\/a> per the manufacturer\u2019s instructions.<\/li>\n<li>Determine turbidity as soon as possible after the\u00a0sample is collected to ensure examination under original conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Wear gloves when taking measurements in the field or the lab. This prevents fingerprints or other smudges from landing on the vial surface and producing inaccurate readings. Similarly, make sure sample vials are clean\u2014not scratched or dirty\u2014and have a protective case.<\/li>\n<li>Keep in mind that vibration can produce inaccurate readings. Take measurements on a level, stationary surface that is not affected by motor or machinery movement.<\/li>\n<li>Gently agitate samples to ensure a representative measurement.<\/li>\n<li>If storage is required, cool to 4\u00b0 C to minimize microbiological decomposition of solids.<\/li>\n<li>Keep cells scrupulously clean, inside and out, and discard if scratched or etched. Never handle them near the instrument\u2019s light beam.<\/li>\n<li>Fill cells with samples and standards\u0097allow sufficient time for bubbles to escape. Because small differences between sample cells can significantly impact measurement, use either matched pairs of cells or the same cell for both standardization and sample measurement.<\/li>\n<li>Turbidity meters should be calibrated with the appropriate calibration standard in each measuring range.<\/li>\n<li>Review the turbidity information located on the Environmental Protection Agency\u2019s (EPA) <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.epa.gov\/water\/archive\/web\/html\/vms55.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">website<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Need a turbidity meter?<\/h2>\n<p>Invest in a turbidity meter kit.
