Here\u2019s our top ten:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Select <strong>immersion heaters<\/strong> based on the wattage you require. This formula can be used as a guide to estimate your wattage requirements. For water: kW= (gallons x temperature rise (\u00baF)) \/(325 x heat-up time (hours))<\/li>\n<li>Gas bubbles sometimes form on small bore tubings and fittings due to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coleparmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/fittings.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-2002\" title=\"Fittings\" src=\"https:\/\/www.coleparmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/fittings.gif?w=150\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"113\"><\/a>pressure drop that occurs as the liquid passes through the office of the connecting fitting. Try boiling the water used to make the solution to <strong>remove dissoved gasses<\/strong> from the water.<\/li>\n<li>Remember, when <strong>selecting a pipe thread fitting<\/strong>, the outside diameter of the pipe does not equal the NPT size.<\/li>\n<li>To convert parts per million (ppm) to parts per thousand (ppt) when <strong>measuring total dissolved solids or salinity,<\/strong> divide the value by 1000 or move the decimal point to the left three spots.<\/li>\n<li>For the \u00bd\u201d and \u00be\u201d <strong>sanitary fittings<\/strong>, the outer diameter of the flange is the same, and uses the same clamp size. Similarly, the 1\u201d and 1 \u00bd\u201d sanitary fittings also have the same outer diameter and therefore use the same clamp size.<\/li>\n<li>When using a <strong>Buchner funnel<\/strong> for vacuum filtration, you may need f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coleparmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/buchner-funnel.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-2001\" title=\"Buchner-funnel\" src=\"https:\/\/www.coleparmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/buchner-funnel.gif?w=94\" alt=\"\" width=\"94\" height=\"150\"><\/a>ilter cones, which provide a good seal with the top of the flask.<\/li>\n<li>Which <strong>thermocouple type probe<\/strong> do you have? Thermocouple types are color coded for a specific type (i.e. yellow is type K, blue is type T, black is type J and purple is type E).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hose barb fittings<\/strong> are for flexible tubing (such as silicone or Tygon) and are sized according to the inner diameter of the tubing they connect with. <strong>Compression fitting<\/strong>s are for rigid tubing (such as PTFE and polypropylene) and are sized according to the outer diameter of the tubing they connect with.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vortex flowmeter<\/strong> technology requires a positive back pressure to prevent cavitation.<\/li>\n<li>Another name for a <strong>rotameter <\/strong>is a variable area flowmeter.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our technical support team has assembled a list of tips that cover everything from fittings to flowmeters.
