When you are choosing a motor\u00a0enclosure, you may be wondering what all the acronyms in the description mean. TENV? WDN? Here\u2019s a list of the enclosure types and what each indicates in terms of use:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Open Drip-Proof (ODP) Motors<\/strong> are equipped with open enclosures. These motors are suitable for indoor use and clean atmospheres. Ventilator openings are designed to prevent liquids and solids from entering the machine from an angle of 0 to 15\u00b0.<\/li>\n
  2. Totally Enclosed, Fan-Cooled (TEFC) Motors <\/strong>have an external fan which circulates outside air to the motor.<\/li>\n
  3. Totally Enclosed, Nonvented (TENV) Motors <\/strong>do not have air openings. While air does not freely move between the inside and outside, the motor\u2019s construction is not air- or liquid-tight.<\/li>\n
  4. Washdown (WDN) Enclosures<\/strong> work well in environments in which regular cleaning or sanitizing is necessary.<\/li>\n
  5. Explosion-Proof (XPRF) Motors<\/strong> are completely enclosed to withstand an internal explosion of gas or vapor\u2014the motor frame will not rupture or burst. Use these motors for safe operation in hazardous environments.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
