  • Q:

Is the column can be reused? When it is time to change the desiccant? Can we refill the unit with magnesium perchlorate desiccant powder for reuse purpose?
Asked on 4/3/2012 by Ivy from Malaysia

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

Yes, this column can be regenerated for reuse as follows: the granules may be spread in layers one granule deep and heated for 1 hour at 210° C or 425° F. The regenerated material should be placed in the the original glass or metal container and sealed while hot. The color of the Indicating DRIERITE may become less distinct on successive regenerations due to the migration of the indicator into the interior of the granule and sublimation of the indicator. The dessicant changes from blue to pink to indicate when regeneration or renewal is necessary. This unit is was designed and tested for use only with Drierite dessicant, such as Item 07193-05. If any other material is used the warranty is void.

  • Q:

Does this column filter SO2, Cl02 gases?
    Asked on 3/14/2012 by Anonymous

    1 answer

    • STAFF EXPERT

      A:

These chemicals will attack the plastic of the column, which will become cloudy and eventually leak and crack. Do not use this drier in the presence of vapors or liquids containing phosphate esters, synthetic lubricants, hydrocarbon solvents, methanol, acetone, lacquer solvents, or other organics . Please see Item 07193-05, which can be used with an alternative drying system.
