More About this Item

Use the detector to check for gas leaks and locate corona discharge sources to ensure worker safety, save money, and reduce downtime. Gas leaks and electrical corona emit strong ultrasonic signals that are inaudible to the unaided human ear. The detector converts the measured airborne ultrasonic signals to an audible range then amplifies them. The output level is displayed on the meter and audibly through the speaker or headset. Applications include preventive maintenance in plants and utilities to locate poor or arcing connections, switches, faulty insulators, lightning arresters, power supplies, motors, and radio frequency interference sources.

Locate ultrasonic sources by using the transducer probe to scan and detect emission with the speaker or meter. Detect a 0.05 mm (0.002") diameter gas leak at 1.5 m (5 ft) with only 10 psi pressure; meter also detects leaks in vacuum systems. Use the detector for finding and cleaning up corona discharge points. Detector is best for using on exposed corona sources—excellent for patrolling pole lines and checking electrical equipment for leaky insulators and faulty connections. To pinpoint the location of the emission source, place the directional horn over the transducer. This helps narrow down the source location within 0.3 m (1 ft) circle at 9 m (30 ft). Slip on the rubber sound concentrator to pinpoint a source even further to within its tip diameter of about 13 mm (1/2").
