Comments about Oakton SaltTestr 11 pocket salinity tester:

I use it to test salt levels in swimming pools, it's fast, easy to use and accurate. The temperature reading lets you know when the reading has stabilized. I use it to calibrate and troubleshoot the installed equipment as well. It could come with a more durable case. Make sure you lubricate the body O-rings with silicone lube when you change the batteries, I lost my first one to leakage that way.

Can this be used to measure salt content of soil/dirt?

      A:

This can be used to measure the salt content of soil/dirt but the soil/dirt will need to be dissolved in water. This will not be able to take a measurement of a dried sample.
