More About this Item

A variety of Sludge Judge samplers are available to fit your sampling needs. Order complete assemblies to receive three 5-ft (1.5-m) sections that screw together, or separate component pieces if customized sampler lengths are desired. The bottom piece has a ball valve that allows liquid in when lowered into the sample and seals the sample when raised from the liquid. The middle section connects the top and bottom sections, order additional middle sections to increase the overall length. The top section has a nylon rope that aids in sampling. All sections feature 1-ft (0.3-m) increments which allow you to easily indentify how much sludge is in the sampler body.

Basic Sludge Judge and Sludge Judge Ultra versions have 3/4" (1.9 cm) diameter pipe sections and hold approximately 3 oz (89 mL) of fluid per foot. Sludge Judge II version has 1-1/4” (3.2 cm) diameter pipe sections doubling the overall capacity of the sampler. Sludge Judge Ultra additionally features an ultraviolet stabilizer which reduces material degradation from UV light.

we are looking at sampling sludge on the base of a reservoir approx 8m deep. would your system be suitable? thanks

        A:

With extension sections, yes. Buy the complete sampler 05465-70, then add three extension sections 05465-74, for a total length of 9m. Add more extensions if standing on a catwalk or other elevated platform above the water surface.

Hi. Many grease traps are smaller and underneath sinks. Is there a smaller version that can be used in tight spaces?

The 3/4" diameter is the smallest diameter sampler we offer at this time.

I need to measure the amount of oil in a oil/water/waste seperator, to determine need for pumping out system,is this the correct tool?

        A:

This sampler will allow you to view the depth of the oil, water, and waste layers in your system. The sampler is marked every foot to assist in measuring depth. This unit consists of 3 x 5ft sections, if you require a longer sampler, you can order additional lengths as our 05465-74.

    • Q:

how many inches or feet does it have to stick out above the water after the tube touch the bottom of the tank?
Asked on 7/28/2010 by wasteguy from Guam

      • STAFF EXPERT

        A:

There is no set distance the tube must stick out above the water when sampling. As long as the top of the tube stays above the surface of the water and doesn't become submerged your sample should be a good representation.

        A:

Yes, the sampler is slowly lowered into the system and will take a sample from each level as it passes through.

    • Q:

Is this suitable for measuring the depth of bottom sludge and floating scum in septic tanks to determine if tank pumping is required?

      • Staff Reviewer

        A:

This unit will help measure the depth of sludge on the bottom of the tank, but it will not aid in determining floating scum levels.

This comes apart so that it can be cleaned and rinsed; then it can be put back together to avoid cross contamination of samples.
