More About this Item

These microprocessor-based ovens are accurate and reliable. Large, flat heater embedded behind the chamber wall provides excellent temperature uniformity and quick heating times. A self-diagnostic function visually alerts you and turns off the circuit heater if the temperature sensor, triac, or heater malfunctions.
Ovens are well built and virtually maintenance-free. Silicone door gasket and positive door latch ensure a tight seal. Vacuum and purge valves are located on top of oven for easy access; connections accept 3/8" ID tubing.

  • Q:

Can this vacuum oven dry aqueous (only water is present) herbal extract, having about 60% solids? Product temperature should not go beyond 80 C, to maintain activity of the herb. Typical batch size would be 10 litres. What type of oven and vacuum pump is indicated for this purpose?

      A:

The vacuum oven has a 9.9L chamber with two shelves. This is too small for a 10L batch. Ideally you would maximize the surface area by using shallow trays on shelves. Consider a larger capacity vacuum oven such as 05053-22, and a smaller overall batch size. The vapor pressure of water at 80 C is 355 mmHg. A suitable Vacuum pump is 07061-42. It has a max vacuum of 609 mmHg, which is more than adequate. It also has a regulator to adjust the vacuum level. You should put a liquid trap inline to capture condensation.

  • Q:

I'm assuming the vacuum pump is not built into this device. What type of pump do you recommend for this?

      A:

We offer many vacuum pumps depending on the max vacuum you are looking for, chemical gases that might be in the air, and volume you wish to vacuum. We suggest the following two for this oven, 79104-30 Vacuubrand® chemical resistant diaphragm vacuum pump with gas ballast, dual-stage, 1.3 cfm, 115 VAC. And, 79303-00 Direct-drive rotary vane vacuum pump, dual mode, 2.3 cfm, 115 VAC

  • Q:

    1. Does this oven allow mutiple temperature setpoints or just one?
    2. Can this oven be operated without a vacuum (i.e. does door have a latch that allows it be operated as a drying oven without the vacuum feature)?
    3. Can this oven be customized to include a 24-hour temperature recording device?

      A:

These ovens are single set point. You can close the vacuum valve and operate the oven without vacuum. This oven does not have an option for a temperature recorder. You can use a separate probe and recorder to monitor temperature though.
