Optical precision comes from bonding together a double convex element and two concave elements of different types of glass. The transparent body allows illumination to fall on magnified area, the body is threaded so you can focus the lens.

Optional measuring scales (sold separately) screw onto the bottom of the lens to provide easy-to-see measurments.
