Hot Tips for ISFET Probes
  • Keep sensor and junction clean. Just a rinse after use is usually enough. For preventative maintenance, frequently clean body with warm tap water; remove oil deposits with mild detergent; gently clean sensor with wet cotton swab.
  • If junction becomes clogged or dry, immerse sensor in 60°C tap water for 20 minutes, then rinse electrode in distilled water and soak for one hour in a neutral pH buffer.
Troubleshooting for ISFET pH Electrodes
  1. Make sure sample and electrode are properly matched. Complexing and binding agents (such as Tris heavy metals and sulfides) are incompatible with Ag/AgCl electrodes. Ensure that pH range, temperature range, junction, electrolyte and flowrate of the electrode are compatible with the sample.
  2. ISFET output can be affected by high-intensity ambient light. Actual measurement should be performed under the same lighting conditions as standardization for highest accuracy.
  3. Never use hydrofluoric acid to clean the electrode.
  4. For accurate temperature compensation, always immerse the electrode at least 2" (5.1 cm) into the sample. The internal temperature sensor on most models is located about 1" (2.5 cm) above the probe end.
