Tech Notes: Replacing Batteries in Your Oakton Instruments EcoTester

Have you received the b-a-t error message on your Oakton® Instruments EcoTester™ or does it fail to turn on? Is it time to replace the batteries? Here’s how:

For best results, change the batteries when your EcoTester is at room temperature. To remove the previous batteries, slide your thumb under the pocket clip to release the back tab. With your thumb under the pocket clip, grasp the battery cover with your other hand. Hold the cover with your fingers and release the front tab with your thumb to remove the cover.

If the cover does not come off easily, use this alternate method: First, place your thumb under the front tab with your finger over the top of the battery cover. While holding this position, place the thumb of your other hand under the back pocket clip and lift to release. The battery cover should now pop off. Remove the old batteries and replace them with new ones—EcoTesters use four LR44 or A76-type 1.5 volt alkaline batteries. When putting the new batteries in, note the polarity guides in the battery compartment.

With the new batteries installed, replace the cover with the pocket clip on the back. Push down firmly and listen as the front and back tabs snap into place. Gently tug cover to ensure a secure fit. Once again, you’re ready to take measurements. No need to recalibrate—the non-volatile memory retains the calibration.
