Read This Before Buying Your Scientific Beakers

beakers

Wait! Don’t purchase those laboratory beakers just yet. You might be getting a good deal, but make sure the beakers you are buying will work with your application. Not all beakers are the same.

Types of scientific beakers

There are many different types of beakers with a boatload of features. Consider the following when choosing scientific beakers for your application:

  • Material: Determine what type of material you need. Glass beakers, various plastics, and stainless steel beakers are available. You may need a beaker that is designed to be chemical resistant. Maybe you need something for ultrapure applications. A general, economical beaker might not be your best choice.
  • Disposable: When you need single-use products, disposable beakers are available.
  • Temperature: Check the temperature you will be using in your application. Many beakers are designed to withstand up to a certain temperature.
  • Shape or thickness: Look at the shape of the beaker. Would you like a tapered beaker for easy stacking and storage? Perhaps you want a beaker with a bottom designed and machined for rapid heat transfer. Worried you’ll drop your beaker? Choose one with a handle for an easier grip.
  • Spout: Do you need more than one spout? Three and four-spout beakers are available.
  • Autoclavable: Are you planning to use the beaker in an autoclave? Not all beakers are autoclavable.
  • Size and capacity: From low form to high form and small to high capacity, beakers come in various sizes and capacities including 10,000 mL (320 oz.)!
  • Graduations or color-coding: Make it easy for yourself. Use beakers with graduations to see approximate volumes. Use color-coded beakers for easy identification.
