Transporting Reagents with a Pipette and Tygon Tubing

Dutch researchers used Tygon® tubing in the direct delivery of reagents into a microfluidic device using a pipette tip. Their study demonstrated loading reagents by pressure driven flow.

Hoon Suk Rho, Yoonsun Yang, Henk-Willem Veltkamp, and Han Gardeniers observed no leakage of solution occurred in their setup. Components used in the research included a stainless steel puncher, stainless steel tip, Tygon tubing, 3D printed plug, and pliers.

Challenges in the process can include difficult sampling, dead volume in tubing and connectors, and the need for extra sterilization on tubing and connectors for biomaterials.

The team details how they created their setup, how they loaded solution, and their findings on the process.
