Comments about Oakton General-Purpose pH Probe, Refillable/DJ/Glass/3 ft Cable; BNC:

The probe is used for wine and works fast and accurate, my only complaint is that the rubber plug that fits into the port used for refilling is impossible to squeeze in and I have to use a piece of painters tape to cover the hole when it's not in use.

For wine testing it is great and accurate. The refill plug needs to be redesigned since you cannot reinstall it.

The original probe on our Oakton meter had a slide-up collar around the fill hole. This one has a rubber plug that is extremely hard to put snugly back into the hole. I had to actually trim it down with a knife to get it to stay in place.

Comments about Oakton General-Purpose pH Probe, Refillable/DJ/Glass/3 ft Cable; BNC:

Our lab had an older model and once that older pH electrode broke, we were quick to purchase this one. It is very accurate and overall a fantastic product. The only problem is that it is very delicate. We had it for a few weeks, stored it in a beaker with the recommended solution and one morning, we arrived to find the blue bulb had broken. I advise users to be much more careful with the electrode. We have since purchased a cover for electrode storage.

                      A:

There is no probe like this that has a glass protective cap that we offer at this time. Our similar epoxy body electrode, 35805-09 has a bulb guard at the bottom.

                      A:

This electrode has a BNC connector, so will connect to the pH510 meter; but this is a direct-connect electrode, so there is no cable. This electrode is more commonly used on handheld meters and pH Testrs.

                      A:

Yes, this probe will work with any pH meter that uses a BNC connection for its pH probes (which is pretty standard).

If the refill solution in the electrode evaporated leaving behind crystals, what's the best way to get rid of these crystals before adding more refill solution?

                      A:

You can use distilled or DI water to dissolve the crystals, but you must also make sure to get it all out before then refilling with the reference solution.

                      A:

"Probe" accuracy is more dependent upon the meter and calibration standards used to calibrate the system (meter and probe together), not the probe itself. Probes drift over time, hence the need for regular, often daily, recalibration.

                      A:

This item is just the probe for a PH meter. The meter would dictate whether the system would be compatible with Lab View. A meter such as the PH2700 our P/N: 35420-22 would be just one suggestion.

                  • Q:

Our meter recieves "rough service" due to some ham fisted operators. Is there a suitable replacement probe that does not have a large fragile bulb at the bottom. I would prefer a style that has some protection for the bulb.

                    Thanks

Please see part number 05991-12 for a similar probe (double junction, refillable) with a plastic bulb shield to assist in protection. This suggested replacement has an epoxy body instead of glass.

Depending on what the emulsion is made of it may work. A flushable junction probe, like 05718-55, may be more appropriate. Please contact us with the details so we may make an accurate suggestion.
